Making Time for Roomie Time
By Lauren Jones
One of the most significant aspects of your college experience is how you spend your time with friends. It is undeniably fun to go out on the weekends together, but what about during the week? It is important to make time to grow closer with your friends in a more intimate setting than a bar or club. One of my favorite ways to bond with my roommates is to watch a T.V. series or movies together. We make an effort to carve out time in the evening before bed to decompress, debrief each other about our days, and relax. It is easy to get lost in the chaos of the everyday life of a college student, so our nights are precious.
Spending these moments together is beneficial for both the individual and the group. Individually, it is comforting to know that you have something relaxing to look forward to at the end of a hectic day. Sitting in a safe space with something enjoyable to watch is also a great way to calm the mind before bedtime. This time together helps build stronger connections, even during the silent moments of watching a movie. It is also nice to have a set time to speak freely about what is on your mind and receive support from your closest friends.
Here is a compilation of movie and T.V. show recommendations from what my friends and I have watched together:
The Twilight Series
21 and 22 Jump Street
Ginny & Georgia
Love is Blind
Married at First Sight
Modern Family
The Kardashians
Text your roommates (or other friend groups) and start this little ritual together! It may seem small, but oftentimes the mundane moments are the most special.
