“Spring” Into Fashion & Body Confidence

The weather is heating up for spring 2022. Spring fashion means shorts, tank tops, dresses, bathing suits, and more. Some people may be excited to wear fun outfits like these in the summer heat. For others, this may instill fear or anxiety, especially when battling with things like body dysmorphia and lack of confidence. 

If you are like me, you are always doing one of these two things: shopping or staring at yourself in the mirror. A lot of our battles come from ourselves but there are ways to start fighting whatever your mind is telling you. Combatting body dysmorphia and increasing your confidence is not easy; trust me, I have definitely been there. There is no “cure” for these feelings and healing from negative thoughts does not look the same for everyone. But, there are ways to cope with these feelings to change your mindset. It all starts with recognizing what you are doing to yourself and seeking ways to improve your mentality and positivity. 

Journaling, meditation, and talking to people about your thoughts are ways to begin your journey. For me, I channel all my negative thoughts into exercise. Spin classes are my release and make me feel my best. However, you must find what works for you. It may not completely rid your negative thoughts, but it can help release them off of your shoulders for a while. As silly as it may seem, there are things you can even say to yourself to boost your confidence. Some people swear by “the superman pose,” or standing shoulder-width apart and placing your fists on your hips, to improve their confidence. Even seeking professional help is not something to be afraid of, especially if it is what works for you.

As we move into the spring months and then into the summer, remember you are beautiful. You are strong. Sometimes being your own worst enemy is harder than if someone else said something hurtful to you. Stay focused on who you are and express yourself in whichever way you would like. Throw on the outfit that makes you feel your best, and the next time you look in the mirror, do not be afraid to say out loud how beautiful you are and how you do not care what anyone else may think. All that matters is how you see yourself, and your goal should be nothing less than completely positive!

Spring 2022 Fashion Trends 

I hope you feel empowered in any outfit you put together in the coming months. As this year’s New York Fashion Week has come to a close, many new styles and trends have appeared for the spring. Here are some fashion trends on the rise for spring 2022 to use as a guide to help you feel your best with your reborn confidence:

  • Y2k - The 2000s are back in style. All things from mini skirts and baby tees to bold colors and patterns are making a comeback–but let’s hope low-rise jeans stay away.

  • Bright colors - Yellow, orange, green, and lilac are popping up in all different clothing pieces. Add some color to your wardrobe to match the spring warmth. 

  • Strappy, sheer, & cutouts - Cutouts have been popular for quite some time now. This spring, add some sheer pieces or strappy tanks and dresses.

  • Bra tops & short cardigans- The basic crop tops are getting a little bit shorter. Throw a nice blazer or cropped cardigan over your bra top and you have a simple outfit in a matter of seconds.

  • Gingham & tweed - Classic gingham pattern and tweed have always been a hit in the springtime. Be ready to see more of these fabrics and patterns in all forms from blazers to pants.

  • Platform shoes & large accessories - Accessories and shoes always bring the whole outfit together. Find yourself a nice pair of platform sandals or a large tote bag and be ready to strut your new outfit.
