Self-Help Book Recommendations For Thanksgiving Break
By Madalyn McClay
In the thick of the semester, sometimes it can be hard to set aside time to decompress. However, with Thanksgiving break quickly approaching, I know that we are all looking forward to having a few days to relax and reset before the rush of finals hits in early December. Personally, I’m looking forward to cuddling up under a cozy blanket and cracking open a new book. Lately, I’ve been really into reading books that are focused on self-help and mental health. If you want to join me in my reading endeavours, here are five books that I would recommend purchasing over this upcoming break:
Don’t F*cking Panic by Kelsey Darragh: This book relays the personal experiences of Kelsey Darragh as she writes about her brutally honest journey with mental health. Reading this book feels like you’re talking to a best friend as Darragh provides a plethora of coping mechanisms as she walks readers through her own battle with mental health.
Daring Greatly by Brené Brown: Once again, Brené Brown has hit the nail right on the head with this amazing read. As a New York Times Best Seller, Brown talks about the importance of vulnerability and emotional exposure in our everyday lives. If reading isn’t your thing, Brené Brown also has a series of eye-opening podcasts that I would definitely recommend as well.
Attached by Amir Levine and Rachel Heller: This groundbreaking novel discusses the science behind adult attachment theory and walks readers through how attachment theory can be utilized in fostering strong relationships with others.
The Mountain Is You by Brianna Wiest: Wiest’s novel discusses the art of self-sabotage and specifically to get rid of unhealthy habits that prevent us from becoming the best versions of ourselves. This motivational read will leave you feeling transformed and ready to face any challenges that may come your way.
13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do by Amy Morin: This book is interesting in that it outlines 13 tangible things that you can avoid that will allow you to take control of your life, embrace change, and facilitate happiness in your everyday life. Depending on your circumstances and preferences, Morin has also written several variations of this novel, some of which include: 13 Things Mentally Strong Women Don’t Do, 13 Things Mentally Strong Men Don’t Do, and 13 Things Mentally Strong Kids Don’t Do.
