Book Suggestions
By Isabel Berckemeyer
As a college student with a busy schedule and a lot of homework, there is very little downtime to do things I truly enjoy. My days are filled with morning classes which are broken up by a quick workout in the afternoon then followed by a night filled with studying and homework. My busy lifestyle and lack of relaxation have led me to indulge in reading for pleasure when I finally have a moment to myself.
Reading has allowed me to get closer to my mom. My mom has spent most of her life
dedicated to her four children, and now that we are all off to college, she is an empty nester. This has caused her to turn to discover new hobbies, her main one being reading for pleasure. At the start of every year, my mom likes to set a goal for how many books she intends to read. Even when all four of us were around the house, she would aim for 15 in a year. Now her goal has been expanded to 30 books per year. Following my mom's lead, three summers ago I decided to set a summer goal of reading 12 books, which I was able to accomplish.
That summer goal changed my entire lifestyle. I spent more time off the grid and off toxic social media, became much more imaginative, could fall asleep faster, experienced less time being bored, and improved my self-image tremendously. The books I read not
only educated me and inspired me, but some also changed my worldview. I thought it would benefit everyone to share my list and offer a few recommendations for what you can read during spring break, Easter break, or even this summer.
