Delicious Green Smoothie Recipe
By Molly Carriero
During quarantine, Reese Witherspoon posted a video tutorial on her Instagram page for her go-to green smoothie. This drink is a part of her everyday morning routine, and she picked up the recipe from her good friend and Little Fires co-star Kerry Washington. I have never been a big smoothie girl, but with all the free time on my hands during quarantine, I decided to give it a try. I absolutely loved it and ended up making the green smoothie every morning this summer. It’s tasty, refreshing, and super healthy, too.
Here’s what Reese and Kerry’s recipe calls for:
Add the following ingredients to a blender:
2 heads of romaine lettuce, chopped
½ cup spinach
Celery (optional)
Anything green you want to add!
1 banana
1 apple
1 pear
1 lemon (seeds and all!)
½ cup coconut water
There are so many ways to customize this drink. You can take out the ingredients you don’t like and substitute what you do. I personally leave out the lemon and substitute vanilla almond milk for coconut water. Sometimes I add cacao nibs for an extra crunch. You can add flax or chia seeds, almond butter, peanut butter, or protein powder—literally anything you like!
If you’re looking for a healthy change to your regular dining hall diet, this recipe is for you. This green smoothie is delicious, super easy to make, and customizable, too. It can be a great breakfast or post-workout snack. All you need to make this drink is your favorite ingredients and a blender in your dorm.
Don’t let the word ‘green’ scare you away—this drink is seriously amazing. Happy blending!
