Self-Care: A Necessity
By Lauren Beizer
Self-care is one of the most important ways to keep our body, mind, and spirit alive and well. It seems these days that everyone always has a very busy schedule. It is so important to prioritize our individual needs and well-being, especially during the pandemic that’s happening right now. In this article, I want to provide some ways in which we can keep ourselves healthy and happy, even with the busiest of schedules.
1) Physical Self-Care
Physical self-care is extremely important. Even if you can only squeeze in a twenty minute walk or a ten minute jog, your body will thank you. If you’re not always feeling exercise as a stress reliever, physical rest is a great way to reset and calm your mind. Another great way to physically take care of your mind and body is to apply face masks, perform your skincare routine, or give yourself a massage. All of these methods work to psychically pamper your body and allow you to take some time just for yourself. Our body does so much for us, so we need to take care of it in return. Practicing physical self-case will provide your body with rest and relaxation while rejuvenating your mind.
2) Mental Self-Care
Mental self-care can sometimes feel even more needed than physical self-care. Our mind runs our entire body and all its functions, so it needs some rejuvenation and relaxation. One of the best ways to do this is to say a spiritual prayer, practice meditation, or simply unplug from social media. Even having a meaningful conversation with someone can provide mental stimulation as well as mental care. Our minds are constantly solving problems and driving our actions, so it needs a break. All of these methods can help us reset our mental health. We spend so much of our days with our minds running in all different directions, so a general pause from the everyday hustle and bustle is something to take advantage of.
3) Soul Self-Care
Soul self-care involves being kind to yourself and those around you. Loving yourself and loving others is good for the soul. Building relationships and connecting with others is key to keeping your soul intact. Your soul works in cohesion with your mental and physical self, so if your soul isn’t intact, then your overall well-being will not be functioning properly. The soul is an important part of your body that needs to be cared for as well. It is just as important as your mind and body, so you have to take care of everything equally in order to reach your best self.
I hope that everyone has felt like they have found a new way to reset and recharge themselves before taking on tomorrow’s challenges. Our brains and bodies need time to relax and unwind since we put them through so much each day. Especially during these unprecedented times, our minds, bodies, and souls are working harder than ever, and we must remember to give ourselves the love we all deserve!
