Podcasts for Positivity

By Rachel Reardon

As a freshman in college, I remember struggling with so many things: new classes, new friends, new clubs, and more. While trying to juggle all of these exciting ventures, I realized that I was working so hard to do things that I was not making any time to just relax and enjoy some leisure. This year, I wanted to change that. I decided to embark on a journey of self-love and personal growth. Today, I want to share what has caused a major change in my outlook on life: podcasts. There are so many awesome podcasts to listen to, but I wanted to share some of my favorites that I noticed have actually changed my mental health for the better. The following podcasts have helped me gain a more positive attitude; their encouraging words help me see the world in a better light each day.

Happy Hour with Gretchen Geraghty

This podcast is my favorite. Whenever I listen to Gretchen, I’m automatically in such a better mood! She not only shares updates on what is going on in her life so you can feel close to her and feel like she’s a good friend, but she also uses her personal anecdotes to give advice on common struggles that young people go through, whether it be losing friends or being in toxic romantic relationships. Her positive attitude radiates as she advocates for self-love and finding happy moments in every day. She releases new episodes every week that are about an hour long, so you can either listen in one sitting or listen throughout the week.

The Confidence Podcast with Trish Blackwell

This podcast really helped me with my mental health. There will always be periods of time during which we feel like we are not good enough. Insecurities are normal, but sometimes we need more help than just our own internal reflection. Listening to Trish made me realize my intrinsic self-worth. She emphasizes the fact that we are all uniquely made and should cherish the lives we have while we have them. Trish also gives advice about how to be confident in so many ways, such as loving the skin you are in, conquering fears, dropping perfectionism, and so many other helpful tips. I really began to notice the little things that my mind reverts to that caused me to doubt myself, and I learned how to conquer them. If you ever need to feel reassured in yourself, listen to this podcast.

The Daily Shine

This podcast provides daily encouragement for mindfulness and finding peace in our lives. The episodes range from around 5-10 minutes long, which is great for those of us who have trouble listening to people talk for a full hour. I love listening to this podcast every morning as I am getting ready for the day. Each topic gives me a personal goal to achieve that day in order to better my own wellness. Every message is unique, so there are no repeating themes, and you don’t have to start from the beginning in order to understand what is said. It’s a quick reminder to take the time out of your day and set an intention for what lies ahead.

WHOA That’s Good Podcast

So yes, this is Sadie Robertson’s podcast, and yes, most of the episodes center around her Christian beliefs. As a Christian, I really enjoy that aspect, but that’s not the reason why I listen. I genuinely enjoy hearing people’s spiritual journeys in general, and Sadie invites a lot of inspirational people on her podcast to give life advice. She offers beneficial advice about maturing as a young woman and overcoming different obstacles that all people face in their younger years. She has an overwhelming amount of positivity that is sure to at least make you smile, which is honestly a win for any day.
