In the Spirit of Spring: Philadelphia's Top Events of the Season
By Kaitlin Croney
The new year is breezing by. February is almost over, and we’re all anticipating the longer days and warmer weather that are just around the corner. If you want to make these last few months of the semester memorable, consider attending some of Philadelphia’s upcoming spring events:
1. East Passyunk Restaurant Week (February 24 - March 6)
Philadelphia’s East Passyunk is a neighborhood known for its many dining options. Luckily, once a year, over twenty restaurants agree to price three-course meals at one of three low prices: $15, $20, or $35. In addition to enjoying good food and good company, this event will allow you to get out and explore one of the lesser known parts of the city.
2. PHS Philadelphia Flower Show (February 29 - March 8)
This colorful display at the Philadelphia Convention Center will be sure to brighten up your day. In addition to a scene of flowers, enjoy live entertainment and over one hundred of Philadelphia’s favorite vendors. The theme of this year’s show is “Riviera Holiday,” focusing on flowers like roses, citrus, and lavender from coastal Europe and the Mediterranean.
3. Philly Wine Week (March 30 - April 6)
For those of us over 21, this week is an eight day long festival full of all things wine! Wine Week includes special wine events, tastings, and specials at bars and restaurants all around the city.
4. Philadelphia Phillies Home Opener Game (April 2)
The start of baseball season makes me think of warm weather, tailgates that last until the long summer days turn dark, and most importantly, stadium food. Philadelphia sports always promise to be an experience whether you are a diehard fan or not. You can buy cheap tickets for this home opener game at Citizens Bank Park down on Broad, or watch the game from home.
5. Manayunk Restaurant Week (April 15-26) and StrEAT Food Festival (April 14)
I had to throw in one more food-centric event because we all love snacks. Luckily, Philadelphia has good food, and a lot of it. This week takes place annually, and a few years ago it became one of my favorite memories. An assortment of entertainers and over 50 food trucks and vendors line the streets of Manayunk, including places to shop for clothes and accessories you won’t find anywhere else. Many diners also join in on the fun and make some of their tastiest meals for only $15, $25, or $35 dollars.
