Want to Take Advantage of the Fall? Try Baking!
By Kaitlin Costarene
Fall brings many exciting new things with it as it rolls in. Replacing the hot, sticky weather with brisk, sunny days and trading out watermelon for pumpkin flavored everything, fall is a welcome change of pace and a great time of year, to say the least. And while apple picking, pumpkin picking, and sweater weather are all great, baking in the fall is one of my favorite things to do. Whether you’re a pro in the kitchen or you’ve never dared to pick up a whisk, there are so many delicious treats to bake this season. And the best part about baking is sharing your treats with friends and family!
I have personally always enjoyed baking. I’ve found that it’s a great way to relax and totally immerse myself in an activity (with the right background music, of course). There is so much room for creativity in baking, so it’s almost impossible to mess up. Each season, it’s fun to try baking new things, and fall is definitely one of the most versatile in terms of baked goods. This fall, I encourage you to bake at least once, even if it seems boring or challenging or unappealing. You might find that it’s actually fun, and you’ll probably be better at it than you think.
Below I’ve listed some of my favorite fall baked goods. Recipes for each of these items are easily accessible with a quick Google search, or even better, you might find them in a cookbook you have laying around. I’ve never come up with my own recipe for any of these items, but it’s always fun to experiment with something different, whether it be a new ingredient or a different amount of an ingredient, each time I make them. Here are just a few of the many fun, fall baked goods to be made:
Pumpkin Bread (with chocolate chips, obviously)
Coffee Cake (my personal favorite)
Apple Pie or Apple Crisp (both are exceptionally tasty)
Apple Cider Doughnuts (too good to be true)
Pumpkin Pie (super easy and delicious)
Snickerdoodles (a classic treat)
Ginger Crinkles (the perfect combination of sweet and savory)
If you’ve already made any of these items, you can attest to how delicious they are. It’s also a great idea to make your own list of your favorite seasonal recipes. That way, each year you can enjoy the taste of your hard work, and share that joy with others. Happy baking!
