The Best Ways to Stay Active During Quarantine

The Best Ways to Stay Active During Quarantine

By Lauren Beizer

Throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us could possibly come into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Once one comes into contact with an infectious person, you will most likely be told to quarantine for about fourteen days. Fourteen days is a significant time to have to isolate yourself from the community at large. Especially if you can’t go to your favorite gym or workout class, it can be hard to find ways to stay active during this time. Below, I have compiled a comprehensive list of workouts that are perfect for an isolated, at-home setting. Our bodies and minds should not be devoid of the benefits that come with working out just because of our temporary living conditions.

1. Chloe Ting’s Workout Plans

Fitness trainer Chloe Ting has her own website (chloeting.com) that is filled with various workout plans. Ranging from a two week full-body shred to a one month full-body shred, Chloe has a workout plan that will meet everyone's needs. Chloe also has workout plans that target certain parts of the body such as abs, legs, and arms. On each respective day of each workout plan, there are videos attached which instruct you on what to do for that day’s workout. Chloe makes it very clear and very easy to access her free training videos. There are also rest days built into the schedule so that you can take a break as need be.

2. Orange Theory’s Workout Videos

The well-known fitness company, Orange Theory, posts a new workout everyday on their main website. These workouts are usually thirty to forty minute long YouTube videos that are free and accessible to anyone. Orange Theory’s videos incorporate many of the exercises that are usually taught in the in-person classes and definitely can be challenging. The instructors are very clear in the videos and provide alternatives for gym equipment if you don’t have access to it in your quarantine space. All of the exercises are done in somewhat of a circuit-style format, so you will be constantly moving.

3. MadFit Workout Videos

The MadFit YouTube channel is a great place to access some at-home workouts. There are dozens of videos in terms of what part of your body that you want to train and for how long. There is a significant variety in the exercises shown in each video and you will be able to push yourself as hard as you’d like. MadFit videos range anywhere from ten minutes to fifty minutes, so whether you're looking for a short or long workout, this channel has you covered. There are also new videos posted a couple of times a week, so there will always be new workouts to conquer.

Quarantining or staying home during these difficult times can be so hard on both the mind and body. This is why we must continue to move our bodies and our minds in any way, shape, or form possible. These three sources for at-home workouts are perfect for continuing to exercise at our own paces under uncomfortable or new circumstances. I hope that these resources serve as useful tools to anyone undergoing a situation in which they need to be creative in terms of finding ways to exercise.
