Self-Care Ideas You Can Do in Your Own Dorm
By Katie Coviello
I am a firm believer that there is truly nothing more important than a little self-care to feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and reenergized. I guarantee a little TLC will make you feel better and back on your bullshit once again. That being said, you may be wondering how you can treat yourself in a 5x5 dorm room. Here are a few tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way that can help you along on your self-care journey.
1. Face Masks
Whether it’s DIY or it’s a sheet mask you picked up on your last target run, nothing will make you feel more zen then an at home facial. You and your roommate can laugh at how absurd each other looks and then once you’re done you’ll feel glowy and dewy and ready to run for president.
2. Color
Get a coloring book or even some blank sheets of paper and go to town. It relieves stress and is a good mind break when you have a lot of homework to get done.
3. Aroma Therapy
Technically, candles aren’t allowed (I bring them anyway), but you can always spray stress relieving room spray, get an aromatherapy diffuser, or some incense to bring calming vibes to your small space.
4. Read a book
I know, you definitely don’t have time for this, neither do I but I finding reading to be so helpful in detoxing me and relaxing me after a long day, you should really try it.
5. Lip Scrubs
Again, you can DIY (just some sugar and olive oil will do it) or pick up a cheap one, but it’s so quick and easy and will make your dry, chapped lips good as new and there’s no greater feeling that healing chapped lips.
6. Listen to music
I personally think that music is such a powerful vehicle to change my mood. Make a playlist of songs that make you calm or happy and bump them in your room to put your mind in a good place.
7. Paint your nails
I always bring some nail polish with me to school and I love sitting and painting my nails or my toes. I feel like a whole new woman with my nails done, it’s a religious experience honestly.
8. When all else fails - eat
Pop some popcorn or buy some ice cream and pig out with your friends. Ice cream will fix anything, I swear.
