Clean Out Your Feed!
By Lauren Martyn
It is time for a spring cleaning…and not in the traditional sense. Every day, we are bombarded with posts on social media that are detrimental to our mental health. Lately, I have been realizing how important it is for a social media detox, and I have decided to clean out my following list on Instagram.
The first step may be the hardest: unfollowing toxic accounts that truly add nothing to our lives. We may be hesitant to cut out accounts that we used to look up to, but a part of growing is realizing that these influencers no longer serve us. I understand that unfollowing influencers that didn’t make you feel positive about you body or skin, and hiding stories from certain friends that choose to upload a constant stream of negative news can be extremely difficult. However, life is about balance, and protecting your energy should be a priority.
Now, I’ve been filling my feed with Instagram accounts that focus on mental health and overall wellbeing. I decided to follow accounts that promote positivity, confidence, and acceptance in order to have an overall healthier experience online.
Below are some of my favorite accounts to follow on Instagram. Be sure to check them out:)
@Shutthekaleup
I have been following Jeanette Ogden, who goes by @shutthekaleup on Instagram, for years. She is truly one of the best accounts to follow for health and wellness, and she is not afraid to be real. From delicious recipes, to the ups and downs of motherhood, to pictures of her adorable family, her feed never fails to inspire me.
@Rachaelsgoodeats
Rachael DeVaux is one of the most hardworking females out there. She is a registered dietitian and personal trainer, co-founder of The Toast Society, and founder of Recreation Sweat. Her profile ranges anywhere from recipes to fitness guides. She is a must follow!
@Wholesomee.han
Hannah Jarrah, most widely known on TikTok as Han.jarr, is not afraid to be vulnerable. On her feed, you will find posts about mental health, smoothie recipes, and tips for how to fully embrace life. Her platform is a huge reminder that cultivating a healthy relationship with yourself is not only possible, but worth it.
@iamwellandgood
Well+Good gives you access to a variety of content surrounding health, wellness, and fitness. I recommend checking out their feed and you will find some great advice…their posts range from gut health tips, strength training challenges, meditations, and delicious recipes.
