Benefits of Low-Impact Exercises
By Lauren Martyn
Recently, low-intensity workouts have been gaining popularity. Barre, pilates, and yoga can be seen all over social media, with many influencers raging about the benefits. At first, I was skeptical and wondered how such low-intensity exercise could transform your body. However, once I began to implement barre, pilates, and yoga into my workout routine, I soon realized how amazing they are for both your body and mind.
Low impact exercises do not place stress on any parts of your body, and are pretty much beneficial at any age. For females especially, incorporating low intensity exercises is so important for managing our hormones. In fact, when our bodies are not in a state of “fight or flight,” which can happen from over-exercising or too much high-intensity exercise, it is actually easier to lose weight or manage stress. Low-intensity exercise is not only beneficial for building strength and mobility, but it also helps reduce risk of muscle, bone, or joint injury. Practicing barre yoga, pilates, or even walking at a brisk pace is known to improve cardiovascular health, reduce blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, and increase bone density.
One of my favorite parts about exercises such as barre, pilates, or yoga is that you can do them practically anywhere! There are so many different online platforms offering a wide variety of low-impact exercises, and it is so easy to do them from the comfort of your own home! I suggest you check out Melissa Wood Health, AloMoves, Barre3, and CorePower Yoga. If you are looking for free classes, definitely check out Lululemon Yoga and CorePower Yoga on YouTube…they are amazing!
