Summer 2021 in Philadelphia and on the Main Line
By Alexa Silvestri
Congratulations on a great end to the semester! We still managed to accomplish so much after two-and-a-half semesters of virtual learning and staying indoors. As COVID guidelines start to ease, it is time to start planning a relaxing summer. Luckily, Summer 2021 will look different from Summer 2020. Some important developments include: more places are reopening, outdoor activities are rising, and normal life will hopefully be returning.
This summer, there are some festivities that are reopening as well as COVID-safe activities to do right here in Philadelphia and the Main Line. Here are some ideas on how to fill your time locally this summer.
Concerts
If you are like me, you love a good concert, especially a summer country concert. Many artists are planning to start back up on tour this coming summer with postponed dates from last year. Whether it is at the Wells Fargo Center, BB&T Pavilion, or even in Atlantic City or Allentown, there are opportunities to grab some friends and listen to live music in the surrounding areas this summer. Some artists that have already announced tour dates in the area from now through September include the following: Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan, 5 Seconds of Summer, John Legend, Toby Keith, Machine Gun Kelly, Carrie Underwood, Maroon 5, and Harry Styles.
Arts: Festivals & Museums
There are countless museums in the Philadelphia area as well as other historical sites. Be sure to visit the Philadelphia Art Museum as well as other historic sites such as the Liberty Bell and Franklin Institute. In addition to long-standing museums, there are usually countless arts and entertainment festivals in Philadelphia including smaller scaled concerts, exhibitions, and more. One prominent festival coming soon includes the Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest paced with outdoor roller skating, amusement rides, carnival games, and great food and drinks! Be on the lookout for more details.
Outdoor Dining & Restaurant Weeks
Outdoor dining is here to stay! There are plenty of delicious restaurant options in Philadelphia and the Main Line. Here are some popular restaurant options in the city: Harper’s Garden, Talula’s Daily, and Parc. In addition, check out Morgan’s Pier, Philadelphia’s Beer Garden, and Attico Rooftop if you are over 21 years old. Finish off your day in the city with excellent ice cream in the city from Franklin Foundation! Other popular dining locations on the Main Line include the following: White Dog Cafe, Terrain Garden Cafe, and Gullifty’s. Be sure to treat yourself to some delicious ice cream in the hot summer months from places like Hope’s Cookies, Parlour Ice Cream Shop, and Handles.
Ardmore Restaurant Week is returning this coming week from May 6th to May 16th. Some noted restaurants include Delice et Chocolat, Buena Vista Mexican, and Sophie’s BBQ and Parlour.

Shopping
We all know the great King of Prussia Mall is within 15 minutes of Villanova in one direction and Suburban Square in the other direction. However, there are more excellent shopping locations nearby the Main Line. If you are looking for an indoor shopping mall, check out these locations: Plymouth Meeting Mall, Neshaminy Mall, Philadelphia Mills Mall, and Oxford Valley Mall. If you want some awesome outlet shopping, try Philadelphia Premium Outlets (Limerick, PA), Tanger Factory Outlets (Hershey, PA), or even Gloucester Premium Outlets (Blackwood, NJ). Also, consider visiting towns like Chestnut Hill, PA and Doylestown, PA for small business shopping, dining, and amazing atmosphere.
