Vision Boards: What They Are, And Why You Should Make One
By Serena Shim
The law of attraction and manifestations have been spreading all over TikTok and have become a trend. As I was curiously going through some TikToks on manifestations, I saw a vision board pop up in one. I never knew the purpose of vision boards, since they just looked like regular collages people hung up on their walls. After doing some research, I thought it would be fun to make one. Who doesn’t like adding a cute DIY decoration to your room?
Also known as dream boards, vision boards serve as an inspiration of the future: your dreams, goals, and ideal life. By representing your goals with pictures, you will strengthen your emotions since your mind responds to visuals. With your goals right in front of your eyes, you will always be motivated and looking for ways to move yourself closer to them. Your vision board can be about all areas of your life or just one specific area that you are focusing on—it’s up to you!
Putting this vision board somewhere you can see everyday will also prompt yourself to visualize your dreams daily, which will motivate you to reach your goals and instill your passions with purpose. I noticed that I started unexpectedly doing things that moved me closer to my goals. Through my vision board, I realized that visualization is such a powerful tool that helps you know your purpose and focus on how you want to feel, not just on things that you want. Vision boards also help you think about what you really want, especially during the process of making one, because it forces you to sit and really think about what it is you want from life. Making a vision board gave me so much more clarity in a time of uncertainty with the pandemic.
I really enjoyed the process of making the vision board. You can customize it however you would like. You can creatively choose pictures that represent the experiences, feelings, and things you want to attract into your life. Just pick anything that speaks to you. I made sure to add in words that described how I want to feel on a daily basis, such as “fearless” and “happy.” It took me a couple of hours to plan out what I wanted on the board and to reach the final product, but it was so much fun to jam out to some music and rearrange the pictures the way I wanted.
I keep my vision board on the wall by my desk. That way I can look at it everyday to remind myself of my goals and aspirations. It definitely helped me stay on task and be more productive, which is obviously a great boost, especially with midterms coming up soon! I know some people like to keep their vision boards on the nightstand by their bed so that they can internalize their goals before going to sleep as well. Overall, it’s a cute decoration that has definitely helped me get out of the quarantine funk and start my days off really motivated.
Maybe after you’ve read all of this, you’ll write down a list of goals you would like to accomplish and make a vision board, too! Get ready for a fun time of inspiration and creativity.
