Positive Things to Take Out of Quarantine

Positive Things to Take Out of Quarantine

By Fifi Fraga

Today, I have been home from college and in quarantine for four weeks. It’s easy to think of all the things we are missing. The last half of our semester was taken from us. As a senior, it was hard to pack up in the middle of March and head home, not knowing when I would return to Villanova. Now that we are four weeks into quarantine, we’ve had to become accustomed to a new life. We have to go out in public wearing masks. We have to make the effort to go on walks and bike rides in order to clear our minds. Still, I’ve realized that some positive things have come out of this new life. I hope that they will continue to be common practices.

The Kindness of Strangers

I’ve noticed strangers are much friendlier to one another. People say hi when they come across others outside, whether they know them or not. This has happened to me many times already. People are just generally more kind towards one another, and it’s very refreshing. We all understand that this situation is hard for everyone, and it seems like we’re all trying to make it a little better by smiling and greeting each other. It brings me joy to see the compassion human beings have towards one another.

Deeper Appreciation for Nature

I have always loved nature, but I don’t think I have ever been more appreciative of it than I am now. We’re trapped inside all day, and spending a little time outdoors is our only escape. To be completely surrounded by nature is a great way to clear your head and forget about the turmoil going on globally. It’s so quiet and beautiful outside, whether you are by the ocean, the forest, or the mountains.

Family and Friends

Spending so much time with my family has made me appreciate them even more. We are all supporting each other, brainstorming new ways to keep each other entertained, and are there for each other if anyone gets sad or frustrated with the situation. I have also come to appreciate the friends from school that I’ve continued to stay in touch with. It makes me so grateful for all the moments we had together at school, whether they were big moments or small ones. Each one is important to me.

Villanova

Although I’ve always been grateful for my experience at Villanova, I’m treasuring all the memories I made now more than ever. I never realized that the last steps I actually took on campus would be my last. We are lucky to have such a beautiful school. In reality, we all should have had so many more memories, but our time was unfortunately cut short. Nevertheless, I have learned to be more positive about it with the support of my family and friends. It is what it is, and all we can do is be grateful for the time we had at Villanova.

Hopefully, I have helped reveal or remind you of some positive things to take from the current situation. Keeping a positive mindset will help us get through it together with strength. Keep moving forward towards the light at the end of the tunnel. It will come soon enough.
