Five Frozen Favorites from Trader Joe's
By Sam Washburn
It goes without saying that Trader Joe’s is a top destination for college students. Its prices are unmatched, its snacks are unbeatable, and the selection is endless. At the same time, it can feel overwhelming to navigate the store and choose what to buy. I want to share five of my favorite items from Trader Joe’s that can make mealtime quicker, cheaper, and even more delicious! All of these items are found in the frozen section, meaning they won’t go bad after a few days and are ready to be cooked anytime.
1. Salmon Burgers:
I have tried to cook salmon myself many times, but each time it has resulted in a disappointing outcome. It is nowhere nearly as good as salmon I’ve ordered from a restaurant and usually ends up in the trash. So, these salmon burgers from Trader Joe’s are truly a miracle. They are perfectly seasoned and result in a delicious meal every single time with limited cooking expertise! I usually cook mine on a skillet for four minutes on each side. These burgers are perfect on top of a salad or paired with veggies and a grain.
2. Riced Cauliflower Stir Fry:
This riced cauliflower is the perfect base for a meal. The seasonings and vegetables add a delicious touch – it tastes just like Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice. I like to add a scrambled egg and chicken to bulk it up a bit, too.
3. Chicken Chili Lime Burgers
Another one of my favorites from Trader Joe’s are the Chile Lime Chicken Burgers. These burgers have a slight hint of chili lime which adds a pop of flavor to your classic chicken burger. While these burgers are great topped with a bun and condiments, they can also go great at your next Taco Tuesday or Mexican-inspired dinner. These burgers are a healthier alternative to your typical taco beef, as they have tons of protein and less sodium and fat. Be sure to pair these chicken burgers with guac, too!
4. Cauliflower Gnocchi
Cauliflower Gnocchi is a Trader Joe’s fan favorite. Most people boil the gnocchi, just like normal pasta, but it can be prepared in so many other ways, too. I’ve recently tried air-frying it as well as baking it in the oven and topping it with sauce and cheese. This product is a great option for those who love their pasta but are also gluten-free and/or dairy-free. Trader Joe’s also makes a sweet potato version and a kale version, which I plan on trying next!
5. Mandarin Orange Chicken
Last but certainly not least is Trader Joe’s most legendary frozen dinner item: Mandarin Orange Chicken. If you have not tried this product yet, I urge you to pick it up the next time you stop by Trader Joe’s. I personally believe this chicken tops what I’ve had at any local Chinese restaurant by a landslide! It is so easy to prepare and hits the spot every time.
